Are Flamingo Razor Blades worth the money?

flamingo razor blades -actually anna

A little over a month ago I got the opportunity to try a new razor brand, Flamingo Razor Blades. To be honest for my entire life I’ve been buying my razors without giving them too much thought. During my student years, I went for the cheapest option, hence I cut myself a lot when shaving my legs. Later on, I found a brand that was not too expensive but also made shaving a little bit more comfortable. They had the serumy cushions around the blades, but I still managed to cut myself every now and then.

Other ways of hair removal

There are indeed many other ways of hair removal, so why should you invest in a good razor. Well, I found that with a quality razor you don’t cut yourself as often. Besides that, there are many ways like IPL laser hair removal, that require you to shave before using the product. I’ve also tried an epilator, but to be honest I found the process very tedious and painful. I rather go to a waxing salon, but those treatments are often quite expensive. And they also require you to let your hair grow, which in my opinion can be quite annoying. Every hair removal device has its pros and cons, so let me know in the comments below what you prefer. Besides shaving, I’d love to try out at-home laser hair removal one day!

Why care which razor blade you buy?

Before I tried the Flamingo razor blades, I also thought what does it matter. Well, first of all, you can consider your personal preference. Razor bladers are not cheap and they are a necessity if you prefer parts of your body to be hairless. I never considered this, but a hair removal tool like razors needs to be doing the job without being uncomfortable. I found that most of the razors I chose to use, were purely out of the price point and not if I found them comfortable to use. Therefore I ended up cutting myself quite a lot while shaving my legs. It’s also quite important to think about the sustainability of razors. I know there are quite a lot of sustainable razors out there nowadays, like the Bamboozy safety razor, but I can imagine those look kind of scary to use. Therefore it’s important to be aware of the ‘sustainability level’ of your razor in my opinion.

Are Flamingo razor blades cruelty-free?

To determine the ‘sustainability level’ of the Flamingo razor blades we can look at the packaging, longevity, and also if they are cruelty-free. I found an article online that they don’t use any animal products nor test on animals, which makes the brand vegan and cruelty-free. Are Flamingo razor blades recyclable? There a recycling logo on the packaging with 50% in it. And the packaging with the holder and 1 set of blades mentioned that the packaging is 100% recyclable and made out of 50% recycled paper. Now talking about the longevity, Flamingo razor blades should be changed once every 6-8 uses according to the Flamingo website. So that answers the question of how long are razor blades expected to last! I would say that with normal razors that would definitely be true, I think I changed them more often due to them being not sharp anymore. And I would say that these Flamingo razor blades definitely last 6-8 uses!

What are Flaming razor blades made of?

This last point brings me on to what’s so special about them. They have five blade cartridges german-made, which makes the shaving experience extremely smooth! Most importantly I find that I don’t cut myself anymore during shaving, which I think is mainly due to the engineered five blade shaving head. I also don’t have to use any shave gel, because the white part of the razor head becomes a bit sticky when it comes into contact with water. This makes shaving my legs a very pleasant experience and results in a very smooth shave. I also find that the German blade stays sharp for a really long time! Usually, I’d have to replace my razor every couple of uses, but this one keeps ongoing.

Flamingo Razors review

This brings me on to my review of the Flamingo razors, and you can probably already guess it: I love them! I never considered spending more money than I needed on razors, but I really notice the difference. They make the shaving experience so much better. I also find that this brand really tried and succeeded in a balance between sustainable and keeping traditional razor blades. They also support 1% of their sales to non-profit organizations to support women globally, which I think is amazing! I haven’t talked about the look and feel of the product yet, which is also spectacular in my opinion. The holder of the razor is very weighty and feels very economically correct. The white bit around the blades acts both as a ‘shave gel’ but also to prevent you from cutting yourself. And a little fun fact: the brand is called flamingo because we often stand on one leg while we shave our legs. I think this was very funny and also quite clever!

The last question I want to answer is: Where to buy Flamingo razors? They recently launched in The Netherlands at Etos, and they are available in the US on their own website. But also on Amazon and in Target, Walgreens, and Walgreens.

So let me know in the comments below if you’d consider this razor and what type of hair removal device you prefer!
