On the hunt for the best self tanner for acne-prone skin? The spring weather is just around the corner so it’s time to talk about getting summer-ready. So did you already read about the best self tanners for acne-prone skin? We all know the hustle with self tanners for your face, it’s just more sensitive than your body skin and tends to break out easier. Therefore I thought I’d share with you a couple of self tanners I find very effective and good for acne-prone skin.
What should I use tanning drops, tanning water, or tanning lotion?
There are a couple of different tanning options when we talk about the best self tanners for your face. You have self tanning lotions, self tanning drops, and even self tanning water. I’ll list a couple of options below and explain to you what I like about them, but first let’s talk about the different options. Or actually, consistencies in which tanning products come these days.
The tanning drops are in my opinion a good option if you have very acne-prone skin and can’t use anything else than your own night cream. It’s super easy because you just pop a couple of tanning drops in your day cream and apply it on your face like always. The fact that you just add something to your own night cream reduces the fact that you’ll break out due to the tanning product. There are a lot of tanning drops on the market and I’ve tried a couple, so I’ll let you know what I think of the different brands in a minute!
Tanning lotions are the consistency that has been on the market for quite a while and is something you can use if you know your skin can handle something. Just be careful with tanning lotions that tend to be very greasy, because that can cause breakouts! Tanning lotions are a nice alternative if you don’t want the hustle of mixing stuff together and feel like harry potter. No, I’m just kidding! The tanning drops are very easy to use, but I can imagine that there are people that just want to slap something on your face and don’t think about it. The tanning lotions are very easy if you’re looking for that kind of product.
Tanning water is quite a new product, or at least new to me, and is very useful if you want to add a layer of self tanner on top of your skincare routine or makeup. It feels just like a face mist, so the chance that it breaks you out is small. At least if your skin can handle normal face mists. A pro of this consistency is the fact that you don’t risk getting orange hands and it’s very evenly distributed.
Also, you use the mist on top of your skincare routine, so you don’t have to worry about another type of night cream. And as I already mentioned you can also use it on top of your makeup during the day. I know that St. Tropez has a face tanning water and I just spotted on their website that they also have a tanning serum!
Best self tanners
So I mentioned at the beginning of this post that I wanted to share with you a couple of different tanning products I’ve tried. Just to refresh your memory I have dry sensitive skin, so take that in mind while reading these reviews.
Australian Gold Face + Self Tanner
This is a product from Australian Gold a brand that I shared many times before on my blog. If you want the full range of this year’s products read the 7x Sun Ready with Australian Gold blog post! This is one of the products they brought out this year and it’s an SPF 50 and self tanner in one, which I think is the best of both worlds. While I like to put my self tanner on during the evening, it might be better to do it during the day and don’t get any weird self-tan lines or patches. This self tanner also has SPF 50, which is a must for me during the summer! As you can see the consistency is a little bit thicker than a normal day cream. That makes sense, due to the sunscreen that’s inside. The consistency is comparable to the tinted SPF face cream they have. Which is marketed as non-greasy, which I completely agree with!
James Read gradual tan drops
I’ve used a couple of different brands of tanning drops over the years. My latest edition is the James Read gradual tanning drops. You just put a couple of drops in your night cream, go to sleep and wake up with a summer glow. I feel like some tanning drops take a couple of uses to build up and with others, you already see the difference after one use. They usually come in a bottle with a dropper like the Tan-Luxe gradual tanning drops. I’ve used the Clarins gradual tanning drops way back, it might be the first brand that actually launched this product. I’ve also used other Clarins products before. I remember I bought this on an airplane on my way from Bristol back to Amsterdam. First time I ever bought something from the duty-free brochure of an airplane. The Clarins self-tanning drops had a very need bottle because the bottle itself was the dropper. You could hold the bottle upsidedown press on the bottom of the bottle and the drops came out. Very useful and not messy at all!
I hope this helps you along the way to get summer-ready. And to get that summer glow on your face without being in the sun for too long! Let me know if you have any other recommendations!
