Coffee talk: The Curio App

curio, app, articles

A couple of weeks ago I got in touch with the makers of an app called Curio. Immediately I was very intrigued by the concept of this app, because to me this was a completely new and different concept. It’s a perfect app if you’re constantly on the move and have little time to sit down and read an article. Because the nice thing about this app is that they read the articles for you. Articles from the best news papers, like The Guardian, The Economist, The Financial times and many more, are narrated, so you can listen to them on the go.

How does it work?

All you need to do is download the app and create an account. After that,  you’re good to go! You have access to thousands of narrated of the best articles. One of the best things is, in my opinion, that the articles vary in length from 5 minutes up to about an hour. So if you only have just 5 minutes to spare, because you’re waiting for your train for example, you can listen to one of the articles. Another amazing thing about the app is the amount of topics. Just name one and they’ll have it, varying from Harry Potter to finance and from Freud to the Brexit. There’s a topic for everyone!

What do I think?

As you’ve probably already noticed I absolutely love this app. I use it when I’m on the go and just want to listen to something other than music. I really love the variety of topics that the app offers. I have really noticed that I listen to such a big variety of topics and therefore also listen to topics I usually won’t come across. I’ve listened for example to an article about the book of Michelle Obama, which was very interesting!

Final conclusion

If you take a yearly subscription to Curio it’s $59.99, which is about $5 a month. I you take a monthly subscription it is $6.99, which is very cheap compared to a newsletter subscription! At least in The Netherlands it is. I really think it’s worth the money, because it’s not just listening to the news. This app is perfect if your busy, travel a lot,  or just want to lay down and listen to an interesting article. And on top of that: they also have personal recommendation based on the articles you previously listened to!

Don’t forget to check out the Curio website for more information. They have a 7-day free trial where you can try out the app. Also, don’t forget to cancel your free subscription in time if you end up not liking the app!
