Since December was quite an expensive month, I thought January is the best time to post my makeup routine using all drugstore products. If you want to know all about my makeup routine I created with these affordable products, keep on reading!
My makeup routine
First I used the Bourjois healthy mix serum foundation 52. With a damp Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, I applied the foundation onto my face in dabbing motions. I really love this Bourjois healthy mix serum foundation 52, because of my dry skin. It really applies well to my skin and doesn’t show any dry patches. I didn’t use a primer today, because especially in the winter I like glowing primers. Do you have any recommendations for a glowing drugstore primer?
After the foundation, I used the Maybelline New York Instant Anti Age Eraser concealer to conceal my dark circles and any redness around my nose, on my chin, and forehead. I also blended this into my skin with the complexion sponge from Real Techniques.
To set the concealer I used the Rimmel Stay Matte powder. As you can see I really like this powder to travel with because the text has almost completely rubbed off. This is a nice setting powder with light coverage. You could also wear this on its own if you just want a light layer of powder foundation.
After setting my makeup I’m going in with bronzer and blusher. For this, I’m using the Makeup Revolution Iconic palette. Since the Makeup Revolution Iconic Palette is no longer available, I linked a similar Sleek palette. If you have a similar skin tone to me, I recommend being light-handed with the bronzer and the Makeup Revolution blush. A little goes a long way if you are going for this natural look. I’m not going to use the highlighter in this palette, because I find it to be very glittery instead of a nice shimmer.
For highlighter, I’m using an Essence eyeshadow in the shade Snowflake. (Unfortunately this Essence eyeshadow is discontinued). When you apply this light-handed you’ll get a nice ice colored sheen on the cheekbones. I also used this highlight on my brow bone, the tip of my nose, and Cupid’s bow.
I recently picked up a new brow product from the drugstore and I am really amazed by it. It is the Essence eyebrow mascara called Make Me Brow in the shade ‘soft browny brows’. This Essence eyebrow mascara a perfect color match for my brows. It gives the brows a little bit more definition, without looking unnatural. The only downside is the amount of product coming out of the tube. I have to scrape off a lot of the product back into the tube before applying it to my brows.
For my eyes, I mainly used the Fleur de Force eyeshadow palette in Lunar Rose (unfortunately discontinued). The shadows in this palette are really pigmented and blend very well. I also noticed that there is little to no fall out when you use these shadows. I didn’t use an eye shadow primer today, because I haven’t found a good replacement for my Primer Potion by Urban Decay. Do you have any recommendations?
First I used the top left shade over the entire lid and in the crease. This is going to be the base and it will help the shadows applied on top of it to blend better. I want the look in my makeup routine to be daytime appropriate, so I’m only going to use the darkest shade (dark purple on the bottom right) as eyeliner. To give the lid and crease a little bit more color I’m going to use a Catrice matte eyeshadow in the shade Pink-Up Girls. After that, I use an angled liner brush from Ecotools and the purple eye shadow from the palette to give the lash line more definition.
I finish off the eyes by using the Essence Get Big Lashes mascara. This mascara has quite a big wand, which I usually don’t like. However, this mascara gives very nice volume and length to the lashes without being overly clumpy or messy.
As you all know I love my nudes! So for this look, I’m keeping it fresh, glossy, and pink. For lip liner, I use the Rimmel Exaggerated Lip Liner in the shade Eastend Snob. After lining my lips first, I also fill them in completely. The reason why I used a lip liner to completely fill in my lips is that the Essence lip lacquer in the shade Beauty Secret (discontinued) I’m using on top is not the most long-lasting product. This lip lacquer is very comfortable to wear and I find it not sticky at all.
To finish this look I use the L’Oreal Infallible fixing mist to keep my makeup in place all day.
